The association serves to promote understanding between peoples and build trust between them. It awards the "Bonn International Democracy Prize" at the place where the Basic Law was created and where the United Nations is based in Germany today. The award is intended to draw the general public's attention to the special achievements of the prizewinner and to encourage similar outstanding achievements.
